National Representation

NUS National Demo

We are affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS) We work with them to ensure they can represent 7 million students in the UK, including the 9,900 at LSE. They get involved in all sorts of campaigns, from challenging the current education funding model in the UK to actively campaigning for the voting age to be lowered to 16.

LSE Students' Union sends three delegates to the NUS National Conference in Newcastle every Spring, where they take part in policy discussions and campaign decision making - just like our UGM! The General Secretary always leads the delegation, but the two other positions are elected during Michalmas elections.

The two elected delegates for the 2011 NUS annual conference are Eden Dwek and Asif Hussain.

At the National Conference the delegates elected most of the National Executive, which includes the National President & Vice Presidents for Higher Education, Further Education, Society & Citizenship, Welfare, and Union Development.

The 'Liberation Campaigns' of Women Students, Black Students, Disabled Students, and Lesbian, Gay, Bi & Trans (LGBT) Students also have Conferences where they elect National Officers, and make decisions about their campaigns.

Its important that we are an active part of the National Union of Students, and we work alongside other students' unions to make sure the NUS is more representative of our students.
